UAAP Season 73 1st Round
UP Fighting Maroons vs De La Salle Green Archers
La Salle wins 80-62
A close game in the 1st half turned ugly for the UP Fighting Maroons in the second half as the La Salle Green Archers pulled away in the 3rd and 4th quarters to win in the 1st game of the UAAP Season 73. UP committed 21 turnovers in the game and most of their shots were from the three-point range, only former Rookie of the Year Woody Co who contributed 17 points got inside the paint a couple of times.
Rookie Mike Silungan scored 17 points but committed 6 turnovers in his UAAP debut after two years of waiting for his residency. The Veterans specially Magi Sison and Martin Reyes who are playing in their last year in the UAAP had a subpar performance along with second year players Mikee Reyes, Alvin Padilla and Mark Juruena.
The only bright spot for the game were the other rookies Jett Manuel and Joshua Saret who contributed 5pts and 2pts respectively but showed potential in their limited time in the court. UP also missed 12 free throws (15 of 27) and shot only 31 percent from the field. We hope UP bounces back from this game vs Adamson this Saturday, July 17, 4pm at the Philsports Arena.
