UAAP Season 72 2nd Round

UP Fighting Maroons vs. ADMU Blue Eagles
Ateneo wins 93-75
Sep 6, 2009, 4pm
FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan

Battle of Katipunan Part II was over in the first half, the UP Fighting Maroons had a bad start and fell 14-0 against Ateneo in the first quarter and never got close, except for a mini run in the 2nd quarter where Arvin Braganza made 2 triples to close the gap to 12 points. While Braganza had a good game with 13 points still in the third quarter, the game was stopped and he had to leave due to his father collapsing while watching the game live.

The UP Fighting Maroons had problems specially in the defensive end where Jai Reyes led Ateneo with his hot shooting from the 3 point range, converting 6 of 9 from downtown. Martin Reyes led UP with 21 points, both Mark Lopez and Mikee Reyes had a bad game scoring only 3 and 0 respectively.

UAAP Season 72

UP Fighting Maroons vs. NU Bulldogs
UP wins 78-76
Aug 15, 2009, 2pm
Araneta Coliseum

UP Fighting Maroons
wins its first game in the second round by defeating the NU bulldogs, 78-76 avenging their big loss to NU in 1st round. Miggy Maniego led UP in the 1st half with 15 points and Martin Reyes took over in the second half with 15 of his 17 points.

NU had the chance to send the game into overtime with UP leading by 3 points but UP opted to foul in the dying seconds, not giving NU a chance to make a 3 point shot just like in the overtime loss of UP to UE.

I hope UP continues this and gets back to all teams that defeated them in the first round. UP Fight!
