UE wins 67-61

Another winless season for the UP Fighting Maroons as they lose their last game in the UAAP Season 73 to UE, 67-61. It was also the last game of Magi Sison (21pts, 17rebs, 4blks), Woody Co (9pts, 9rebs, 2asts, 4stls) and Martin Reyes (4rebs, 1ast). And may also be the last game for Coach Boyet Fernandez and the whole Coaching Staff of the UP Maroons.

Some notes from the game:
- Alvin Padilla top scored for UP with 17pts
- Magi Sison also played well with 14 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks
- Although their defense has improved, UP shot only 20/60 from the field (33.3%)
- Mike Silungan played sparingly and is still recovering from flu
- Miggy Maniego/Carlo Gomez at sick bay
- Mark Lopez/Woody Co out with an injury

Last game will be this Saturday, 2pm vs UE, as UP avoids another 0-14 season in the UAAP which they also had in 2007, let us all support our team in their last game. And this will also be the last game of Martin Reyes, Magi Sison and Woody Co (who is rumored to play in their last game against UE). UP Fight!

Some Notes from the game:
- Emman Monfort buried UP with 23 pts on 5/10 from 3-point range
- 4 UP players scored in double digits: Reyes/Co/Silungan/Sison
- The rest of UP players, total of 10 points
- UP committed 22 turnovers and was only 35.5% FG shooting
- Just like their 1st game against Ateneo, it was a close game in the 1st quarter and Ateneo pulled away in the 2nd quarter (although UP made a mini-run in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 3pts)
- Mark Lopez, did not play due to sore eyes

UAAP Season 73 1st Round
UP Fighting Maroons vs UST Growling Tigers
UST wins in OT 87-81

The UP Fighting Maroons had a big chance to win its first game this UAAP Season (and first without Coach Aboy Castro) but crucial turnovers and missed free throws extended the game into overtime and eventually the Maroons lost to the Growling Tigers 87-81. Woody Co missed two free throws in the 4th quarter which should have given UP a 3pt lead, with UP leading by a point with 6.2 seconds left in the regulation.

Then in the next sequence a double lane violation was called that resulted in a jump ball situation where Jeric Teng got the ball and was fouled by Mike Silungan (It was just a small bump but the referees still called a crucial foul) with 3.5sec left. Teng missed the first free throw and made the second to send the game into overtime.

Jeric Fortuna of UST had the hot hands with 29pts and 8 out of 10 from three point range including a rare 4-point play from a foul from Magi Sison in OT. It was actually a good game by UP with Interim Coach Potit de Vera calling the shots in the 1st half but in the 2nd half, it was clear that Consultant Boyet Fernandez who was the one making plays during timeouts.

The Fighting Maroons improved offensively specially Magi Sison who top scored for UP with 19 points along with Martin Reyes who was also on fire from three point range also with 19. But it came down to making free throws and taking care of the ball in the last few minutes which UP really needs to improve the next few games.

Mike Silungan, Woody Co, Mark Lopez and Alvin Padilla were the only other players from UP who scored a basket.

Adamson wins 66-59

The UP Fighting Maroons came back from a 12 point deficit in the 1st half vs the Adamson Falcons to tie the game at the end of the 3rd quarter, 44-44 behind the scoring of Veteran Martin Reyes and Rookie Mike Silungan but the Maroons fell short in the last quarter and is still winless in 2 games in the 73rd season of the UAAP.

Woody Co led UP in scoring with 17points and also contributed 8rebounds, 2assists, 4steals and 2 blocks.

Some notes from the game:
- An addition to the UP coaching staff is Coach Boyet Fernandez of Sta. Lucia
- 3pt field goal, 7/26 only Mike Silungan had a good 3pt percentage (3/7)
- 23 turnovers (6 by Silungan)
