2010 Fil-Oil Flying V Pre-season Invitational Cup

The UP Fighting Maroons Men’s Basketball Team will once again join the 2010 Fil-Oil Flying V Pre-season Invitational Cup which starts April 10. UP will be led by UAAP Season 73 Rookie Mike Silungan and graduating players Woody Co and Martin Reyes.

Vic Manuel of Pharex Fighting Maroons was named Best Player of the Conference but could not lead Pharex to a win in the PBL finals and gets swept by Excelroof 25ers. Arvin Braganza had a good game scoring 14 points but the other UP players had little contribution in this crucial game.

Woody Co leads Pharex Fighting Maroons in scoring with 16 points but could not get the win over Excelroof and falls 0-1 in their best-of-three finals series. Pharex led most of the game but Excelroof came back in the fourth quarter and controlled overtime and is just one win away from being champions.

Pharex B Complex Fighting Maroons grabs a spot in the 2010 PBL Finals by defeating Cossack Blue Spirits, 96-83 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig. Their are now just waiting for the winner of the Cobra vs Excelroof semi-finals do or die game this tuesday.

Mark Lopez, Martin Reyes and Woody co contributed 11, 10 and 7 points respectively.

No. 2 FEU has a twice to beat advantage over UE, but FEU has a big disadvantage (Barroca). UE upsets a distracted FEU team in game 1, 84-74 behind the hot hands of Paul Lee.

Then in the knockout game, UE defeats FEU again, 78-72 to stage a showdown with Ateneo in the Finals. This is one of the most shocking upsets this season behind UP defeating Ateneo. Almost everyone has predicted an FEU vs Ateneo Finals, but now it is the Ateneo Blue Eagles versus the UE Red Warriors.
