UAAP Season 73 1st Round
UP Fighting Maroons vs UE Red Warriors
UE wins 59-54
Another chance for UP to finally nail its first win but another heartbreaking loss as Paul Lee led UE to a win vs the Maroons, 59-54. With UE holding just a 2pt lead 56-54, Paul Lee made a step back three pointer to give UE a five point lead 59-54 and eventually UP missing its last few attempts as they fell down 0-5 in the current UAAP Season 73.
It was a very close game as the two teams exchanged baskets in the 4th quarter, but UE made 3 consecutive 3-point shots at the end of the 4th quarter, 1 by Paul Zamar and 2 by Paul Lee including the step back three pointer.
Rookie Mike Silungan led UP with 20pts including a three pointer to cut UE lead to 2, 56-54. It was only Magi Sison as the other UP player who had double digits in scoring with 11pts. UP was missing the services of Woody Co (but still in uniform in this game), who had a knee injury in their last game against UST.
Game Scores:
UE 59 – Lee 23, Martinez 10, Acibar 6, Casajeros 5, Razon 4 Ayala 4, Zamar 3, Enguio 2, Reyes 2, Tagarda 0, Duran 0.
UP 54 – Silungan 20, Sison 11, Padilla 6, Gomez 6, Saret 3, Martin Reyes 3, Lopez 2, Hipolito 2, Maniego 1, Manuel 0, Juruena 0.
Quarterscores: 15-8, 29-21, 36-40, 59-54.

2 losses after a good preseason, coach castro is out…
3 straight losses after, ano UP alumni, shouldn’t we replace Coach Fernandez now? Dapat lang for consistency!
Way to run a program!!!

I think UP made a big mistake when they replaced Coach Aboy Castro. I think a big portion of handling a team is the character of the coach. Aboy is a winner and has a winning attitude. I believe that UP was on the right track. The team needed another year or another good player for rebounding (they had an African student playing at the summer tournament) to be performing at a higher level. Aboy Castro was slowly building the team to be more competitive…we had great hope for UP…

Nakakawala na ng gana manood. UP is losing focus kapag crunch time na..they’re turning the ball over, they’re not moving the ball well, over dribbling, etc! It happened twice! First vs UST, now in UE! Hanggang kailan ba tayo nasa ilalim sa larong basketball? We have Silungan but we are still win less.
UP can’t finish the game strong. Haizz.. If they win tomorrow saka na ko manonood ulit!
