Come from behind win by UE over UP in OT

UAAP Season 72

UP Fighting Maroons vs. University of the East Red Warriors
UE wins 77-69
Aug 6, 2009, 2pm
Araneta Coliseum

UP had a chance to seal the win in regulation, but Rookie Alvin Padilla missed 1 of 2 free throws with UP leading by 3 points with 9 seconds left. Then Acuna of UE beat the buzzer with a 3 point shot and tied the game at 65, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra period, it was all UE as veteran Elmer Espiritu took over the game, leading UE to a 77-69 win over the maroons. Woody Co led UP with 23 points, but could not lead UP to its second win and ties NU and Adamson at the bottom of the standings.

Although the loss is heartbreaking, it was a big improvement from last year, specially versus UE, where they lost to UE by 30 points. Hoping UP bounces back this saturday against UST for their final game of the 1st round. Game time will be 4pm at the Araneta Coliseum.

  2. It’s sad to see that UP loss this game. Just nine seconds away from the 2nd win. But, I admired how they fight, how they show their hearts.
They now know how to fight. The next lesson is how to win!

    Still 8 games to go!

    Show them that we’re fighting!
Show them that we’re the Maroons!

    UP fight!

  3. i literally fell from where i was standing kasi i really thought that we are going to win. sayang lang that alvin padilla wasnt able to make his first free throw. major sayang. but it was a great game pa rin. just keep up the good work. we actually are getting better, but it just happened that UE was the more experienced team.
